HOUSTON'S RESTAURANT
I’m not a fan of chained restaurants, but Houston’s Restaurant is an exception.
My friend Shaz’s mother, Clarisse returns to LA once a year from Spain and every time she comes back, Houston’s is always on her calendar –specifically Wednesday, when they serve the tortilla soup. I am thinking, “Hmm…Houston’s must be really good for her to fly 6,000 miles for it. Oh yeah, she also came for her daughter, but food first and daughter second.”
Houston's Restaurant is located in the Century City Mall, facing Santa Monica Blvd. Shaz and Clarisse said that Houston’s don’t take reservations…but I think they are wrong. Give em a call, because there’s always a wait. Our wait time was 15 minutes. Once seated, we knew what to eat. Clarisse ordered her tortilla soup and Houston’s famous "fall off the bone" ribs and Shaz and I split the California burger--medium w/ fries. There was mishap with my Shaz’s Gimlet; the bartender put olives in her drink…but the waiter fixed it.
By the way, service was outstanding; our server was very attentive. The food surprisingly came out really fast. Our burger was cooked perfect and delicious. The fries are really good too!
Being the hungry, hungry, hungry hippo, I helped Clarisse with her soup and ribs.
The soup was tasty, and OMG, their ribs are amazing.
It’s true; the meat literally “falls off the bone.” I loved that they don’t douse their ribs in sauce too. The cole slaw was really good too. When we were done licking our fingers, the server immediately slipped a plate of hot towels for us. Heaven. I had no room for desserts. Our total was around $75 not including tip.
Houston’s Restaurant is a keeper --just don't order their sushi (Shaz hated it and plus, why would one order sushi at a chained restaurant that's known for burger, steaks and ribs?)!
