CITY BEST CHICKEN

We can't get enough of City Best Chicken at work! We order there like once a week.

I'm addicted to their chicken kabob sandwich. The corn could be sweeter and the grape leaves are not bad.

There are no raisins in their grape leaves.

CALIFORNIA CHICKEN CAFE

DSC06329
My colleagues and I came here after a screening, as California Chicken CafĂ© is the perfect place to grab a quick bite. It’s simple, you order at the counter and take a number once you pay for it. CCC is always packed for their location and food. They have a small parking lot, but you will most likely have to search for street parking.

The last time I was here was probably a decade ago. Had I known they were famous for the Chinese chicken salad, I would have ordered that instead of the Combo wrap, which comes with chicken, avocado, jack cheese, sprouts, tomato and mayo.
DSC06330
The wrap was too simple and extremely bland. The hippo needs flavor in the food!

If you’re want a hungry, hungry, hungry hippo like me, go for their chicken or the “supposedly” best Chinese chicken salad in LA.

CITY BEST CHICKEN

**Update review

Dear City Best Chicken,

Please, please learn how to make tahini because then the bosses will stop ordering from King David, and I could order your AWESOME chicken kabob sandwich

Your kabobs are a hundred times tastier and you're so much cheaper-- $6 for an 8" sandwich! Here's a link to a tahini recipe.

Chick-Fil-A

I heart Chick-Fil-A!

I like to kill 3 birds with one stone when I'm visiting my cos in Irvine--it's good to be environmental. Since I have been eyeing Chick-Fil-A ever since my visit to the Deep South, I might as well stop by at a Chick-Fil-A. OMG, it was a nightmare getting there!

Google's directions are SO WRONG. If you're heading south on the 605 freeway DO NOT take the Spring Street exit, unless you want to get lost and talk to strangers. Take the Carson exit (before the Spring exit) and look for the "In and Out" sign -Chick-Fil-A is right next to the burger joint. To make matters worse, their parking lot was a bloody nightmare around 6pm on a Saturday.

The first thing that I noticed was the cleanliness. I had to double check that I was in a fast food joint. Most fast food joints' condiments/napkins area only has ketchup, mustard and napkins. Umm...Chick-Fil-A has 2 flavors of jams, 4 different coffee creams, hot sauce, mayo, ketchup, mustard, and napkins (I'm sure I'm missing a few items). Wow! They sure are generous with the condiments.

I went for the original chicken sandwich and the 4-piece chicken nuggets
kid's meal. The total came out around $6. I was impressed with the meat quality. It sure doesn't look like Micky D's mysterious meat nuggets.

DSC06059
Chick-Fil-A's nuggets are small though...so we won't feel guilty eating them? The waffle fries are great.
DSC06056
I should have order the grill chicken sandwich as the nuggets and the sandwich taste the same.
DSC06060
Nonetheless, they are both quite good, and I had to force myself to stop half way on the sandwich to save room for desserts. I had asked a customer if she prefer the ice cream or the milkshake. She didn't know as she's always been too full from stuffing her face with chicken and waffle fries. Be sure to make room for their ice cream. Chick-Fil-A uses the ingredients for the ice cream and milkshakes.

Ok, now I know why everyone is crazy for Chick-Fil-A! I think I'll make Chick-Fil-A a regular stop when I'm heading to Irvine.

p.s. In case you're wondering what the third bird is, it's laundry.

OB BEAR

I joined a Fried Chicken club where we dress up in chicken suits and eat fried chicken cuz we're masochist.
I never crave for fried chicken, but with all these Korean Fried Chicken places sprucing up, I figured it's about time I check 'em out. We started with OB Bear, supposedly the mother of Korean Fried Chicken, well at least it existed in LA before Bonchon & Kyochon (check with Tony C for K(orean)FC' s history...). It should really be OB Chicken, but yeah, OB Bear sounds cooler like a frat house. Think someone said that the name has something to do with the Korean = English translation....They should just get rid of OB cuz it just reminds me of tampons.

That said OB Bear is a hole-in-the-wall restaurant that serves rocking fried chicken! We started with a pasta dish w/ squid.
DSC05924
I'm allergic to squid, but everyone seemed to enjoy it. OB's Spicy chicken wings looked delicious!
DSC05925
I'm a chicken and can't handle spicy food, so I went for the regular chicken wings.
DSC05926
Wow! SO GOOD! I guess it's all about double frying the chicken. We also ordered a small whole chicken.
DSC05927
The skin is tasty! The next best thing about OB Bear's chicken is that it's not overly greasy! The ghetto salad was the perfect side dish. The Korean pancake was delish! Tab came out to around $120 (4 platters of chicken wings, squid pasta, 1 small chicken, 1 Korean pancake, and 2 pitcher of beers); each paid around $13. Excellent service.

OB Bear would be a great place to watch sport games -great food and cheap beer, but they need to turn on the volume...
If you're coming from the west on 7th Steet, you will hit the free parking lot with the "OB" sign, which looks like a mechanic shop, before the restaurant. The "OB" signs don't match...
OB Bear is a must if you're hunting for Fried Chicken!

CAFE BRAVO

I guess I'll forgive Cafe Bravo for not allowing us to dine in at 8:30pm (they close at 9pm) because I love my FOOT long chicken kabob (with tomatoes, cilantro and garlic sauce) sandwich for $4.50 last night! Yes, $4.50! Not only is it cheap, but it's also delicious! B was happy with lamb kabob plate (comes with 2 sides) -$8.00. I can't wait 'til they move to Silverlake! The Glendale store sign is hard to read --it's right next to the KFC.

BIG WANGS

I did the chicken dance pledge at work.

The chicken dance pledge is where you dance like a chicken (yes, I flapped my wings), and pledge to go to Big Wangs for their Tuesday chicken wings special no matter how exhausted you are.

My colleague raves about their Tuesday special all the time. It's 25 cent a wing but the catch is you have to buy 10 wings; it's still a bargain for $2.50. Plus, they have a beer spinning wheel --where ever the arrow falls, it's cheap beer (wasn't paying attention because I don't drink beer, but it's a pint).

I yelped the place so I was mentally prepared for all the man-child there (yes, there were plenty of them. I met one in the parking lot while I was smoking my last pack of fags..a Caucasian realized that I was Asian and wanted a fag. Instead of asking straight out, he starts Chinese bowing --seriously, hands in prayer style and then asked me for a fag, and of course when I gave him one, he bowed again. I should have said, "Fook you, no fag for you.") The joint was packed. Everyone was here for the chicken wings special. This is a man-child place. You have cheap drinks and food, flat screen TVs all over the place, a pool table and let's not forget the Big Buck Safari video game. Ladies, if you want a man-child, come here.

Let's stop talking about the man-child and move on to the service. It took the waitress 20 MINUTES to give me my diet coke. It took her 40 MINUTES to give our wings. I'm not exaggerating at all; I checked my watch. My colleague said the service is normally not that shitty...

Now let's talk about the wings. You have a few options: mild, hot, cajun, chipotle BBQ, and terriyaki. We went for mild, hot, and cajun. Oh, the waitress only gave us ranch dressing when we also requested blue. Back to the wings, I am really disappointed that the wings tasted the same for the most part. Ok, one had more black pepper and the other was a tad bit more spicy, but come on, it's the same sauce --especially when your lips are burning. I stopped at 8 wings before I gave myself a heartburn.

Granted the wings are cheap, don't do the chicken dance pledge!

CITY BEST CHICKEN

What did the City Best Chicken say when it cross the road?
"Kabob, kabob, kabob!"

I know, terrible joke but they have excellent kabobs.

THE CHICKEN LADY

I took my Chicken loving co-worker who's always ragging on me for being on Yelp. Well, now he knows the power of Yelp! Without Yelp, I wouldn't have known of the Chicken Lady and then he would've missed out on her too.

I probably would have given the Chicken Lady a 4 star if my waitress hadn't spilled water on me....and if my order was right. We ordered the Lime Cilantro Chicken Fingers & the Chicken Tenders but ended up with the Thai Chicken Fingers. The Chicken Lady corrected our order, so I guess I can't complain too much because we kind of got the buy 2 and get one 1 free deal...nonetheless, it's true want the Chicken Lady Lovers have been saying about her chicken, and that mac is SO GOOD! The Chicken Pasta's was disappointing...

Definitely do take out with the Chicken Lady! Oh and she closes at 2:30pm on weekdays and only offers pop & water.
