Cake Salon Bosco

Cake Salon Bosco
After Park’s Barbeque, Cat, Leeanne, and I headed to Cake Salon Bosco located in the Chapman Plaza for desserts. It was our first time there, and we loved the look of the place. Cat wants to own a tea shop that looks just like Cake Salon Bosco.

The tables are cute—those are real coffee beans.
Cake Salon Bosco
The desserts are even cuter.
Cake Salon Bosco
They are just too pretty to eat. We ordered the raspberry milk chocolate, tiramisu, dark chocolate, and I believe the other flavor was coffee.
Cake Salon Bosco
This is what the inside looks like:
Cake Salon Bosco
How did the cakes taste? Well…it’s like going on a date with a hot boy. His eyes twinkle, perfect hair, dresses well, and has a killer smile that just makes you melt…and then he speaks and you realize there’s no substance, no personality, and all he’s good for is just to look at. The cakes were tasteless.

Their “Asian” Cheesecake was just as bad. It needed to be creamier; it’s more of a sponge cake that needs to soak in some more juice.
Cake Salon Bosco
The worse part was their latte. It tasted like instant coffee. I don’t know if they have an espresso machine…maybe they used all the coffee beans for the tables instead? Cat had tea, and Leeanne had their instant “Korean” coffee, which was probably just a latte except I paid more. The total was around $30-40 –overly priced awful desserts and coffee. I guess we should have gone to Café Loft where there are Sweet Lady Jane’s desserts and makes a mean mocha…oh well, we can check Cake Salon Bosco off our list.

Bouchon Bakery

Bouchon Bakery
Last Saturday a companion and I squeezed a trip up to Bouchon Bakery before the wedding, after all we were in Thomas Keller’s land and it would be ashamed if a hippo doesn’t go.
There was already a line out the door but it wasn’t that bad because the bakeshop is really tiny, and the register is literally five steps past the door. Stepping into Bouchon Bakery is like a kid entering a toy store; you want everything. I’ve never been so indecisive in my life! I took a bunch of photos to share my pain with you…

After deliberating for fifteen minutes, I purchased the chocolate bouchon, Nutter Butter, seasonal croissant, and cheddar bacon scone. Since the 17th Annual Taste of Yountville was happening on Washington Street, I prolonged the wait of eating my Bouchon Bakery goods.
Bouchon Bakery
I shared the cheddar bacon scone with a few girls when we returned to the hotel from the wedding, and oh my goodness it was amazing! The scone disappeared within five seconds. The cheddar and bacon were evenly distributed.
Bouchon Bakery
The Nutter Butter disappeared the next day. I shared it with several people at a wine tasting. They say that chocolate is better than…well let me just say the Nutter Butter has replaced chocolate!
Bouchon Bakery
Bouchon Bakery
I saved the seasonal croissant for today's breakfast after all breakfast is the most important meal of the day! It was delicious despite being two days old!
Bouchon Bakery
After the seasonal croissant I scarfed down the chocolate bouchon. It was dense like a brownie without the chewiness. Amazing.
Bouchon Bakery
After paying for my goodies, I found out that I could have paid $1 for the chocolate bouchon instead of $3 as Bouchon Bakery participated in the Annual Taste….it was hiding off the street…smart…argh.
TASTE OF YOUNTVILLE
I purchased a chocolate chip cookie that had a slight burnt taste, and from Bouchon Bistro they offered this beef salami/pate served on a toasted baguette.
TASTE OF YOUNTVILLE
I don’t think it was the Terrine de Foie Gras de Canard as that costs $48.50 for 5 oz. and the sampler was only for one ticket –$1. I wasn’t a fan of it; I don’t do slimy texture.
The Bouchon Bakery most certainly lived up to my expectations! I need to find out if Beverly Hills’ Bouchon offers the Nutter Butter…

Susina Bakery & Café

My friends and I ditched our Chinese-ness after our early Chinese New Year dinner celebration at the Manderette Cafe and headed to Susina Bakery & Cafe for desserts. I heart Susina Bakery & Cafe. I wished I can eat Susina's cakes every day but I'm not one of those lucky bastards who can eat everything in sight and not gain an ounce.

I was hoping that Cathy and Leeanne would settled on one cake because my jeans were really rubbing into tummy....but Leeanne wanted Banana Cream Pie,which didn't sound appetizing at first, but to my surprise, I actually enjoyed my 1st Banana Cream Pie. I like banana, but I don't know for some reason I always imagined that the banana would be so strong and sweet with the other ingredients in the pie that it would stop me from enjoying eating a banana. I was wrong. It was very fluffy and not as sweet as I had expected.

I picked the Berry Blossom cake. I love Susina's Berry Blossom cake but I have to confess that Sweet Lady Jane Bakery is better...

But still we were all very happy with or choices. I can't imagine a better way celebrating Chinese New Year early than with good people and good food!

Mercuri's Baby Shower

Mercuri's Baby Shower
My colleagues had their baby shower the other day and the food display was just amazing that I had to write it up! They had hired another friend's brother (who happens to be my former colleague) to prepare the lunch food. Now, the "chef" was always bragging how his sister always wanted to him to cook for them and how an awesome cook he was, and I briefly sampled some of his food earlier this year at a Super bowl party and was extremely disappointed and still am. I have come to a conclusion that he is gifted at making food luck good but has no clue on how to make it taste good. It looks very impressive doesn't it?

The salad had too much dressing. There's nothing worse than eating soaked salad...The grilled panini need to be melted more and I would have picked better ingredients where the taste pops out more. I don't now what he picked but overall the sandwiches were bland.
Mercuri's Baby Shower
The best food (non-dessert) were the store bought ready food: hummus and cheese. You can't go wrong at having cheese at your party!
Mercuri's Baby Shower
The desserts were the highlight at the event. They bought Vanilla Bake Shop's desserts! How cute!

When I finished all my desserts, I didn't know who looked more pregnant - me or my friend?
I thought that the take home gifts was adorable! It was a cute baby shower, and Vanilla Bake Shop desserts are a must have!

Dufflet Pastries

Dufflet Pastries
After being dumpling’d out, I ventured down Queen Street. I was told that Queen Street had a bunch of cute non-chained stores. It’s the equivalent of Melrose. After walking for a few hours, I had a sweet tooth craving and went to Dufflet Pastries, which is supposedly Toronto’s “Sweet Lady Jane.” I found it odd that the shelf was pretty empty, but then again it was close to closing.
Dufflet Pastries
Dufflet Pastries provide cakes/desserts for many local Toronto restaurants. Their carrot cake called my name. It was heaven! The best carrot cake that I have had in awhile! It wasn’t too nutty, really moist, and the icing was perfect.
Dufflet Pastries
If you’re in the area, be sure to stop by!

SPRINKLES CUPCAKES

img050
It doesn’t matter how old you are, you will always feel like a 5 year old when you’re at Sprinkles Cupcakes.

It was a no brainer that we were going to have desserts at Sprinkles after our lunch at Yu-N-Mi. There’s no competition. Sprinkles’ cupcakes are much better than Crumbs, which are too dense. You should be able to drop a penny and have it bounce back—not that I’ve tried…but you get the drift.

It was sunny and warm and a line at 2:30PM…what…? We waited for 15 minutes before entering the store. The store is tiny, so they like to keep the doors closed so the cupcakes stay nice and moist. There’s no line at Crumbs…yeah, you know it, everyone knows it, Sprinkles is the place to go for cupcakes.

Alas, we enter the store and there were so many cupcakes to choose from…

I went for the Dark Chocolate and the Red Velvet.
img053
Sharon went for the Chocolate Marshmallow
img052
and Clarisse went for the Brown Sugar…?
img051
We sampled each other’s cupcakes and I enjoyed mine the best. I saved the Red Velvet for later, so I can take a picture with my camera --what a huge difference!

By the way, I loved that Sprinkles is eco-friendly with its recyclable plates and wooden utensils.

Now, if there could be a Sprinkles in Silverlake…
