MARIPOSA

There is no doubt that the Mariposa is the best restaurant in/near Park City, after all it's the highest Zagat rated restaurant in the area. This adorable two-level cabin style restaurant was #1 on my restaurant list.

Making reservation was a little tough as you are required to give out your credit card info and if you flaked or didn't cancel within 48 hours, you'll be charged $50/person (yikes!)...and the restaurant is only open from Tuesday - Sundays from 5:45p-9pm during ski season.

After a long week of dealing with bitches and assholes, one would go for a back massage, but I went for a stomach massage and treated myself to dinner at the Mariposa right before watching an 8pm flick. I made reservation for 2 the same day and luckily they didn't charge me $50 when my colleague couldn't make it.

The restaurant was tricky to find in the pitch black night (it gets pretty dark at 6pm). Once you passed the driveway to the Stein Ericksen Lodge, there's a parking lot to your right for the Silver Lake Lodge; I'm pretty sure parking is gratis (I didn't get a ticket but someone did hit me. If you're renting a car, always get full coverage). You will see a stupid map (only lists what stores are there but doesn't tell you WHERE the stores are...) to the right in front of the "strip mall" and basically the Mariposa is straight down.

When you enter the restaurant, you are automatically greeted by (3) soft-spoken polite people, and to your right, a gentleman offers to take your coat. I waited for 7 minutes as they re-set my table for one...hmm...at least I was sitting in front a nice warm fire. As the hostess guided me to my table, I noticed all the empty tables, wondering why Mariposa told me that they were fully booked for the evening...they seated me at a four-top table but removed the (2) chairs in front of me...as to scream to everyone that I was dining by myself...er, they should really just leave the chairs there with no place settings.

I started with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc (good, had a sparkling taste...) for $8. Their wine's price list is reasonable. The chef's complimentary amuse bouche was Tuna Tartar (very good & very tiny).

I went for the Warm Vidalia Onion crusted Goat Cheese & Roasted Baby Beet Salad as my appetizer for $15.
DSC05609
It was delicious; I really liked the crusted Goat Cheese. The portion is very small or perfect -- slightly bigger than my fist. I was starting to think that the restaurant was not as expensive as I had thought, but oh wait! The entree prices are from $37 to $49! Yeah...that's where it hurts...I really wanted to try the Seared Natural Bison Filets but didn't -not because it costs $49, but it came with Foie Gras and Yam -yuck. My waitress, Stephanie recommended the Sablefish Mariposa (honey tamari glaze, fresh ginger sauce, shiitake mushroom~scallion rice cake) and WOW, the fish just melts in your mouth and I loved the rice cake with shiitake mushroom.

DSC05610
Luckily, the ginger in the sauce wasn't over powering. Like the Beet Salad, the portion is small, but at least it allowed me to have room for dessert.

Lastly, I finished my meal with the $9 Yummalicious Chocolate Snowball (a dense, bittersweet chocolate cake with whipped cream) and a cup of coffee ($3.50, not the ridiculous $9 Glitretind coffee):

DSC05612
How cute!

If I had to pick on something, it would be that they didn't wipe the breadcrumbs off the table after the main course. Despite the breadcrumbs, service was excellent. Oh and like I said they shouldn't make it so obvious when people are dining alone. My meal came out to almost $100 including tips, and had I more time I would have definitely opted for their tasting menus-- prices start off around $75.

Mariposa is a must!

GLITRETIND

When people come to Park City for Sundance, they usual research on the films or parties, but I prefer to study up on the restaurants and Glitretind was #2 on my list. The restaurant is in the very expensive Stein Eriksen Lodge (lots of celebrities stay here for Sundance because it's away from Main Street), which means..the bill will make a nice dent on your plastic.

After a 7 day cleanse, I opted for the $34 lunch buffet; it was cheap compared to my friend's $22 Chicken Pot Pie that was boring (Swanson's Chicken Pot Pie tastes better)...DSC05582
See...the $34 lunch buffet made sense. Their buffet was outstanding! DSC05596
They offered (2) soups: 1) Game and 2) butternut squash bisque.DSC05579
My colleague got the Game soup, which was too gamey for me. The butternut squash bisque was heaven! They had a nice selection of pastas, salads, cheese etc: I discovered a new cheese I love: New Amsterdam! They also had a seafood section, which I avoided (allergies). The special of the day was make your own Mahi Mahi tacos. I got the Ancho chili rubbed strip loin instead and it was delicious!! I should have skipped the Grilled Swordfish. The Yukon Gold Potato Puree was to die for!

Oh, we also ordered the $11.00 Garlic "Fries," which were not bad but for $11, you can skip it.

Back to the lunch buffet...to the best part...the desserts.
They had one long table dedicated to desserts!!!DSC05595
Errr....so I tried:

the Cheesecake (meh) & the Chocolate Banana Tart (good)
DSC05585
the Strawberry Mousse (meh)
DSC05588
the Fruit Tart (meh, had a coconut flavored crust? I don't like coconut) & the Chocolate Decadent (OMG! YES, this chocolate cake is better than sex!)
DSC05587
My colleague ordered an $18 burger; he seemed to enjoy it.
DSC05583
My double latte (very strong!) was served in a tiny, cute cup. It costs $9!! Um, yeah..Starbucks latte sounds pretty cheap....

The damage...10 lbs...
DSC05594
Our lunch came out to $200 for 4 people including tip. Excellent service. Valet parking is $10.

If the meal is on someone's dime...Glitretind is a must!

FUEGO BISTRO & PIZZERIA

Fuego Bistro & Pizzeria was not on my "Places to Eat" list....think Pomodoro, a slightly better version of the Olive Garden.

I met up with a few people for dinner last Thursday; they picked FB&P because it's walking distance from the Marriott Park City, and the food is reasonably priced.

We started off with an artichoke side dish (ok, greasy) and pizza. The pizza was mediocre -Digiorno Pizza is better.
DSC05598
I shared the Chicken Pasta Fresca with my colleague; it was ok --nothing to rave about. DSC05601
I tried my friend's Baked Rigatoni with Meatballs, and ditto, it's quite boring. DSC05602
Another person in our group tried the Pasta Frittata and um...let's just say he barely touched it. They wanted to make the hippo sleep.

Nonetheless, Fuego Bistro & Pizzeria is good for big groups (space is like a warehouse -high ceilings) and inexpensive (I think we (party of 6) spent $130 not including tip).

GOOD KARMA

I'm scared to write a negative review on Good Karma, not that Hippos are prone to believing into superstitions.

A local recommended us to have breakfast at Good Karma as Park City hates brunch (it's very tough finding a restaurant offering breakfast). Good Karma is a cute, cozy Persian/ Indian restaurant that also serves the All-American breakfast..

I ordered the Good Karma Frittata DSC05604
...and as you can see it's not a Frittata but an Omelet. I was disappointed that there were only (3) sausage pieces in the Frittata.. Their homemade scone was spongy. Their Chai Latte is pretty good.

If you're craving breakfast and near the Marriot Park City Hotel area, dine here.

EASY STREET BRASSERIE

We had an event at Easy Street Brasserie last week and the staff did an excellent job making sure the buffet was replenished and the guests were taken care of.

Right before we opened the doors to the guests, my colleague and I split the $17 Cheeseburger w/ Garlic Fries.
DSC05605
Their Garlic Fries are damn good! The Cheeseburger was juicy and good too, but wow, their Garlic Fries are a must!

The restaurant itself is cute with low ceilings and red walls creating an intimate or claustaphobic environment. The restaurant is split into (2) rooms separated by French window doors.

I'm very happy to know that there's another great restaurant on Main Street.

WINDY RIDGE CAFE

Park City hates brunch.

I came to Windy Ridge Café last Thursday because I had read that they serve eggs Benedict just to be disappointed; WRC only serves brunch during the summer. Argh.

I decided to try WRC for lunch the next day as they were highly praised by other hippos. Their "famous" Corn Chowder soup was delicious but too spicy for me. The waiter was kind enough to allow me to sample the soup before committing to it. I had their Cream of Mushroom Soup instead, which was amazing!
DSC05606
As you can see, the soup was served in a cute pot. I wished they offered cup servings. It had the perfect weight distribution--it was a light-heavy soup. I know, it doesn't make sense, but if you try it, you'll know what I mean.

For my main meal, I decided to try something new, the Tilapia Sandwich, which was tasty but a little too fishy for me.
DSC05607
Lunch came out to $25 including tip.

In a nutshell, WRC serves flavorful, comfort food that will make your tummy happy.

EATING ESTABLISHMENT

I should rate Eating Establishment higher as it's the ONLY restaurant (not hotel restaurant) that serves breakfast until 4PM, but the food is just average. Since it's the only breakfast joint (I don't know why there aren't more restaurants serving brunch during Sundance... Sundance = parties = late nights = drinking = waking up late = eggs @ 1PM = :D ) wait time is usually 30 minutes.

The eggs at Eating Establishment are basted; I prefer my Eggs Benedict to be 100% poached. I also prefer to have the lemon juice already in the Hollandaise sauce (had a slice of lemon on side).
DSC05624
The Home Fries were boring. Their Fresh Strawberries Waffle looks better than what it tasted. DSC05625
The side of Chorizo links was good. With coffee and juice, the total was around $30 not including tax.

So, if you're craving eggs in the afternoon, you are screwed and need to eat the Eating Establishment.
