Starry Kitchen
Starry Kitchen is the newly crazed restaurant located in DTLA. The LA Weekly wrote up a great article on how they started out of their apartment. I was all excited to finally try their food with my friend just to find out that they only serve lunch…on the weekdays. How the hell am I supposed to try their food when I don’t work near DT?
Well...thanks to Iceland’s volcanic ashes, my boss’ flight was delayed to late morning the other day…and that’s when I made my bolt to Starry Kitchen. They validate parking at 350 S. Grand Ave (the entrance is at Olive Street), but I’m cheap and parked at 24 Hour Fitness’ parking lot on Flower where I paid a buck instead of three bucks. If I had to do it again, I would park at the Grand structure as I wasn’t anticipating the steep uphill on Grand Ave…
Starry Kitchen is located at the Water Court of California Plaza, across from Wells Fargo for people like me who’s not familiar with the DTLA buildings. I wasn’t expecting the interior to be like a fast food restaurant. You can confuse the place for Carl’s Jr.
Starry Kitchen rotates its menu so customers never get tired of their food. I ordered the Bulgogi burger and garlic noodles since it were their last week on the menu at the counter. The ordering process is a bit confusing; you first pick your protein, then a “vessel,” and then a side. The “vessel” part through me off. Who says pick your “vessel?” My eyes are fixated on the bahn mi sandwich, wrap, chopped salad and Thai Cobb salad. I was like…so is this another item? I get my proteins, a bahn mi sandwich, and a side? They should just write, “How do you want your proteins prepared?” instead… I know…that would be too wordy but that might save ‘em time on explanation. I ended up with the Bulgogi burger bahn mi sandwich style with a side of garlic noodles. I grabbed my number and took a seat outside.
The Bulgogi burger was good but nothing spectacular. Burgers are shaped into meatballs…reminds me when my mother tried to be All-American and added carrots and other way-too-healthy ingredients into an oddly shaped burger...she tried so hard to convince me that it was a burger... Well, at least Starry Kitchen’s burger tasted better than mom’s.
They accidentally gave me the Asian slaw. It’s more of a “Thai” slaw, with the peanut dressing. I liked it.
I really liked their garlic noodles. A vampire would not step near me. It’s too bad that it’s going bye-bye.
I am planning on going to Starry Kitchen with my food group later this month. I can’t wait to try more dishes!
